01 / Start with the part
Write down what the part must do: look clean on a desk, fit another component, or withstand a particular load or environment. Choose the material requirements before the brand. Test fitted features on a small sample before printing a batch.

02 / Match drying capacity to your routine
Two rolls
Creality Space Pi Plus is the two-roll option in this comparison. Check spool fit and lid clearance before assigning it bench space.
Four rolls
SUNLU S4 provides capacity for up to four spools. More capacity is useful when you regularly need several compatible rolls ready together.
Use the exact filament and spool maker’s drying instructions. Do not assume two materials can share a drying cycle just because they fit in the box. Drying and keeping material dry afterward are separate steps.
03 / Give every spool a place
- Keep the original material and batch identification with the spool.
- Separate similar-looking PLA and PETG so a color match does not become a profile mismatch.
- Follow the manufacturer’s storage instructions between prints.
- Allow a clear filament path and enough room to open the dryer without moving the printer.
04 / Record a repeatable result
For each sample, record printer, nozzle diameter, material version, profile, layer height and orientation. Photograph the result alongside the feature you are judging. Keep changes small enough to identify which one helped.
Before purchasing another tool, identify the problem it is meant to solve. A dryer, a new spool and a changed profile address different needs.
